100% Post-Consumer Recycled Paper

The inside of this book is printed on 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) paper and the cover of this book is printed on 30% PCR paper—which means that fewer trees were cut for this book than if it had been printed on virgin fibre paper.

All the paper is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which provides a standard to assess responsible forest management.

Forests and trees help to store carbon, and preserving them is a critical part of addressing climate breakdown.

Investing in Environmental Printing

100% post-consumer recycled paper (PCR) is typically more expensive than paper with less or no recycled content, which is why many books have 30% PCR or no recycled content.

In order to have recycled paper and to know about the printer, I decided to work with a local printing company. (If I had used a “print-on-demand” online service, I would not have incurred any up-front printing costs—however, I would not have been able to select the paper or know anything about the location of or the working conditions at the printing factory.)

This book is printed in Toronto, Canada through Thistle Printing, which received “Gold” in the Environmental Printing Awards for “Most Environmentally Friendly Printing Company in Canada (1-49 employees).” Thistle’s workers are unionised.
